A Volunteer Soccer Program for Children and Young Adults Who Have Been Diagnosed with Autism

YMS Special Stars

WELCOME!  Our Spring 2018 Season Now Starts April 8th

About YMS Special Stars:

YMS Special Stars is a volunteer soccer program designed for children and young adults who have been diagnosed with autism or Asperger’s syndrome. This program is dedicated to engaging children on the autism spectrum in specially adapted soccer skill building and soccer games supervised by a group of volunteers. No prior soccer experience is necessary. Practices and games are structured to provide a stress free opportunity for special Athletes to engage in soccer and fosters social skill building and interactions between the Athletes and the Volunteers.

YMS Special Stars is administered under the auspices of the Yardley-Makefield Soccer Association. Student Athlete Volunteers (Special Pals) and Volunteer Coaches interact with and guide Special Star players and families during the practices and games. We welcome Athletes and Volunteers from any community, not just Yardley residents.

YMS Special Stars Spring 2018 session will now begin on Sunday, April 8th.  All practices / games are held on Sundays from 3:00pm to 4:15 pm at Edgewood Elementary.

Welcome to the YMS Special Stars Soccer Program

Today June 10th is the last day of the season. If the weather permits we will play soccer and end with the Trophy Presentation. If it is raining, please meet us at the pavilion by the end of the field (over by the picnic area) and we will give out Trophies and gifts at that time.

Special Pals: YMS Special Stars Scholarship

Due to the rainouts and cancelations, we are moving the Scholarship Process back a few weeks. Any Pal that would like to have an opportunity to receive a scholarship for this year, needs to have an essay written and sent to JohnHealy@aol.com no later than June 24th, with the winners being contacted July 1st, 2018. Topics should be about; How has Special Stars changed you?, What lessons have you learned from the Special Stars Program?, Why should other young adults your age volunteer for Special Stars... What will they get out of it?, etc. The winners and their essays will be posted on our website for all to see. If you have any questions, contact John Healy (267)229-3109. Thank You and Good Luck!.
